This includes the following instances:
- You were injured
- A close relative died
- You saw the crime happen to a loved one (or were there immediately afterwards)
- You paid for the funeral of a person who died.
- The crime must have been reported very promptly and you must have co-operated with the Police.
- It is not necessary for the perpetrator to have been caught.
- Compensation can be refused if you have caused or provoked the attack, or if you have a criminal record yourself.
- Minor injuries are excluded
You usually have to claim within 2 years of the crime and the crime must be reported to the police before you consider making a claim.
