Every adult should have a Lasting Power of Attorney in case of an accident or illness. It is always advised that you appoint an attorney whilst you still have the capacity do so, as it can become very costly and convoluted if you are incapable to make decisions and an attorney has not been appointed.  An LPA will ensure that, as a vulnerable person, your affairs will be handled correctly and quickly. We can help you with a property and financial affairs LPA which allows your loved ones to deal with paying your bills, buying and selling your property and managing your bank accounts and investments. We can also assist with a health and welfare LPA which covers decisions about health and care.

Why a lasting power of attorney is right for you:

  • Ensuring you have peace of mind, knowing that your financial and/or health related decisions will be taken care of by someone you trust.
  • Allowing your next of kin to easily make decisions, in instances that they are prohibited. It is important to understand that next of kin do not have an automatic entitlement to manage personal affairs of loved ones.

We will advise you on the things that you need to consider, draft the documents for you and register the power of attorney. You do not need to come into our office at all and we provide a nationwide service because everything can be done by telephone or video conferencing. You will none the less always receive our excellent personal service and our friendly experts will be very happy to answer any questions that you have.

How Much Does an LPA Cost?

You must register your LPA with the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG). The cost of registering a lasting power of attorney in England and Wales is currently £82. You can, however, apply for an exemption under certain circumstances.

There is a 50% reduction, for this registration fee if you earn less than £12,000 per year before tax. If you receive means-tested benefits, this can mean that you do not have to pay anything at all.
